New Stuff

20 January, 2012

Udon ParkOne of the negative aspects of always going to the same place, is that you rarely have anything new to talk about. So, on my last trip, I visited Udon Thani, a city in Northeast Thailand near the border with Laos. Also, panoramic photos were update.

Rice in ChaiyaphumMore pictures added to the Chaiyaphum section. I visited as they were picking the rice. It looks just as hard as planting it did. They only harvest once per year in Chaiyaphum, due to the limited access to water, and the entire effort takes about three months, from planting to harvest.

Panoramic PhotosPanoramic photos updated. I am really hooked on these since they are not difficult to make and the results can be quite dramatic.

GuamPictures from Guam, a small island in the middle of nowhere, south-ish from Japan. You probably won't ever visit here, unless you are a tourist from Japan, or are in the Navy, maybe. The mostly-empty white-sand beaches make this a good choice if you happen to be in the area.

ManilaHighlights of our trip to Manila. This was my second visit - the first time I was here was 10 years ago, and not a whole lot has changed, except they play hockey now.

ShanghaiMy first visit to the PRC was courtesy of the city of Shanghai, a busy city with the most insanely crowded subway you could ever imagine. Shanghai was more like Hong Kong than I expected. I flet like everyone was trying to rip me off - watch for scams!

SeoulSeoul - I wish I could have spent more time here because there was lots to see and do. Everyone was friendly, prices were reasonable, and no one tried to rip me off.

KagoshimaKagoshima is the lastest stop on our trip. Highlights include a volcano and an aquarium and difficult-to-fin wifi. It is a nice small, quiet city in southwestern Japan where we enjoyed mild weather and reasonably priced beer.

OkinawaWe visited Okinawa for a few days. I wasn't really sure what to expect, but I thought it would be like Tokyo with some beaches thrown in. Okinawa is an interesting place, distinct from other parts of Japan. Apparently, the people there are independent minded, similar to the people of Hawaii, and they don't necessarily consider themselves Japanese. Also, the presence of the US military is a thorn in the side of Okinawans, who would like to see the American bases there closed. The last land battle of World War II was fought on Okinawa, and there are many museums and memorials dedicated to the many people who died here.

MauiPictures from Maui added. Very cool. It was nice to go to Hawaii without going to Honolulu. Anyone who visits Hawaii and only goes to Waikiki is encouraged to try visiting a different island this time.

15 March, 2008

Pictures from Ensenada, Mexico added. Not many pictures = not much to see in Ensenada.

Random errors fixed to graphics and links.

9 December, 2007

I finally updated the old site. Say goodbye to the Frontpage tables, say hello to the Dreamweaver CSS layout.

29 April, 2007

Another update from Thailand: Cha Am, Mae Hong Son and Chaiyaphum have all been added to the website. Also, I uploaded a new video.

17 March, 2007

The big trip is finally over, and updates are posted here.

27 November, 2006

Videos have been updated. The video of what happens when sailors cross the equator is especially enlightening.
