Hua Hin is a nice little seaside town in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, just a few hours from Bangkok. It has some nice beaches, and is a quieter alternative for people heading to Pattaya.
The beaches at Hua Hin aren't as busy as other places in Thailand. I think that Hua Hin attracts a different sort of traveller that Ko Samui or Phuket. Also, more Thai people from Bangkok visit Hua Hin, since it isn't too far to visit.
For 20 Baht (65 cents), this lady chopped up an entire pineapple for me. There are plenty of vendors on Thai beaches. Most of them sell "junk" that I don't need, but they also bring food around. It doesn't matter how many pineapples I eat at home, because they never taste as good as the one I ate one the beach that day.
There aren't a lot of high rise hotels in Hua Hin, and most of the guesthouses are located near the beach.
